KARACHI, Dec 24: Lady’s Love, a four-year-old chestnut filly is fancied to lift the Quaid-i-Azam Gold Cup which will be contested by 14 of the country’s best horses at Karachi Racecourse on Thursday.

Going over the distance of 12 furlongs, the filly carrying only 7-13, will be challenged throughout the race by S.M. Warsi Zaidi and Shamim Ara Begum’s highly bred bay horse Steal The Show, carrying only eight stones and one pound on his back.

Also in contention to pick up the spoils is the much talked about Hoor-e-Mehran, Gambling Girl, Love U Lady, Charkh Bareen and Show Time.

A total of nine events have been chalked up for the day and the first race begins at 11.00 a.m.

In the 2000 Guineas of Pakistan where only seven runners will contest over the mile three-year-old bay colt Blues Traveller, holds the Pakistan record by scorching the turf over six furlongs in Lahore in an amazing time of one minute 11.5 seconds.

With champion jockey Shahid Rehman in the saddle, Blues Traveller should this time make amends and get the better of last time’s conqueror Keen Winner, a highly bred bay colt.

The Nursery Cup is the third trophy up for grabs with 11 two-year-old colts and fillies going over six furlongs. Of the lot Dil Phaink gets the vote to win from Al Asif with Fantastic Love and Eye Sore battling it out for the third chance.

Choti Moti not allowed to run on merit in her last outing could steal the limelight in the opener from Rakha Poshi and Metro.

In the second race Arabian Majesty should prevent Falcon from making it two wins in a row with Smokey Prince and X’tasy joining the fray.

War Lord is on song to pick up the spoils in the fourth race.

The sixth race has a big field of 18 runners going over six furlongs. Sarazen, the thoroughbred chestnut colt won last week like a champion and should win again.

Don’t Panic is tipped to win the last race, but then again Yaqoob Choice could upset the applecart.
