BUNER: The district police claimed to have resolved a 16-year-old murder case and arrested six accused, while recovering the remains of the deceased.

A statement issued by DPO Buner Mohammad Irshad on Monday said a local resident, Rashed Iqbal, brother of the victim, had moved an application on Jan 16, nominating three accused in the killing.

The statement said Jowar police were directed to launch an inquiry, adding the police arrested the three accused, namely Fazal Haq and his sons, Aman and Abdul Wahab, for involvement in the disappearance and subsequent killing of Iqbal Said.

During initial interrogation, the accused confessed to killing Iqbal Said by strangulating him in the guest room of Shah Bahadur in Shooprang in Salarzai, and later burying his body in the nearby fields. The motive behind the killing was stated to be a woman dispute.

Police said the spot identified by the accused was dug in the presence of medical officer Dr Bakht Zar Khan, judicial magistrate Assadullah Khan and some locals on Jan 21 and a human skeleton was recovered from there. The police said the family members identified the victim from a purse found on the body.

The statement said on the information provided by the accused, police also arrested three of their accomplices, also involved in the murder.
