KARACHI, Dec 23: Fine batting by Shiraz Khalid and Shahzad Malik put newcomers PTCL in a strong position against Bangladesh ‘A’ on the second day of the Pool ‘A’ Patron’s Trophy tie at National Stadium on Tuesday.
Shiraz, who is batting on 84 off 191 deliveries, and Shahzad (87) helped PTCL to a first innings score of 262 for five in reply to the 223 all out made by the tourists.
Shiraz and Shahzad were involved in a fifth-wicket partnership of 132 in just over three hours after medium-pacer Anwar Hossain Monir had disposed of the top four batsmen for a total of 70 runs.
Shahzad was the more aggressive of the two, striking 12 fours and one six in his 106-ball knock. Shiraz has so far hit nine boundaries during 259-minute vigil at the crease.
Earlier, pacer Riaz Afridi claimed two of the remaining three Bangladesh wickets to finish with four for 39 in 28.3 overs.
