KARACHI, Dec 23: A police officer was arrested while hunt for his five colleagues was launched on Tuesday following a raid on a police chowki in Labour Square, Korangi.

The raid was conducted upon a complaint that a 40-year-old man was kept at the chowki in illegal confinement. According to the TPO Shah Faisal, Asif Aijaz, a team of the Korangi police investigation wing, head by Inspector Mohammad Ali Rind, raided a house in Block 12 of Gulistan-i-Jauhar and picked up one, Shamshad. Other members of the team were ASIs Mohammad Sualeh Solangi and Malik Feroze; and constables Mohammad Hanif, Shakeel and Rashid.

The team took Shamshad to the Labour Square police chowki where they were posted. The police team asked Shamshad for a handsome amount for his release. However, his family somehow approached city police chief Asad Ashraf Malik and sought his help. The CCPO directed the TPO to conduct a raid on the chowki.

Accordingly, the raid was conducted and the victim was found there along with ASI Sualeh Solangi. Solangi was immediately arrested and an FIR (475/03) was registered against him under section 342 of the PPC.

More raids were being conducted to arrest the absconding policemen.
