ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) collected Rs1.5 trillion in the first half of 2016-17 as compared to Rs1.3tr during the corresponding period last year, Chairman FBR Nisar Muhammad Khan said on Friday.

Briefing Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on FBR’s performance during the first half of 2016-17, he said that seven per cent growth in tax revenues was witnessed, compared to the target of 16pc for the current fiscal year. He added that revenue collection during Dec 2016 had been the highest so far in the current fiscal.

The finance minister said FBR’s strong performance in Dec 2016 bode well for revenue collection in the second half of the financial year 2016-17. He urged the FBR to take necessary measures to improve revenue collection in the next half.
