MARDAN: A schoolteacher allegedly subjected a grade one student to physical torture in a government primary school in Tikadar village of Mayar here.

Jamil Khan, father of the student aged 6, addressing a news conference at the Mardan Press Club on Friday, said his son remained absent from school on Wednesday. Next day, he alleged, the teacher undressed his son in severe cold and subjected him to corporal punishment for remaining absent from school.

He said his son could not sleep during night owing to pain caused by torture, adding torture marks were visible on the back of his body.

He also said he had taken his son to a doctor for check-up.

Jamil said he was a poor person working in a marble factory and appealed to the provincial education minister Mohammad Atif Khan and other relevant authorities to take stern action against the teacher.
