LAHORE, Dec 20: Chief Minister Punjab, Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi on Saturday announced a grant of Rs 10 million for the Punjab Squash Association (PSA) to further promote the game.

Speaking before the semifinals of the World Open squash championship he said Punjab Government was fully committed to promote sports.

“We have set up a separate sports ministry to promote sports in the province and we are optimistic of achieving this objective,” he said.

He said Punjab Government had already given a grant of Rs20 million to PSA for the completion of the Squash Complex.

“ With the fresh grant, I hope that squash will be further promoted under the dynamic leadership of PSA President, Lt General Zarrar Azim,” he said.

Pervaiz said Pakistan ruled the squash scene for decades and was also the world champions in other sports and called for launching collective efforts to help achieve the lost glory.

“We have chalked out an ambitious programme for the development of sports and the day is not far when we will again be the world champions in squash and other sports,” said the chief minister.—APP
