Selection board challenged

GUJRANWALA, Dec 20: The Lahore High Court has stayed the induction of a cardiologist in place of another doctor at the DHQ Hospital by the District Coordination Officer.

Acting on a writ petition on Saturday, the court summoned the DCO on Jan 20.

DCO Fazeel Asghar formed a selection board comprising assistant professor Dr Shahid Ahmad, EDO (health) Dr Zafar Iqbal Niazi, EDO (revenue) Tahir Khurshid, DO (revenue) Najam Ahmad Shah, District Nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha and other senior officers for the selection of specialists for the DHQ Hospital.

After interviewing a number of candidates, the selection board recommended two specialists, one each for the cardiology and urology wards.

The DCO reportedly directed the EDO (health) to transfer Dr Ikramullah Warriach, already working at the cardiology ward. But he moved the court and pleaded that the selection board formed by the DCO was not competent to interview the doctors.
