ISLAMABAD, Dec 19: Parliamentarians will be sensitized on child right issues in a meeting with the members of National Working Group on Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) and Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) on December 24.

Besides creating awareness about CSA/CSEC, the meeting aims at encouraging the parliamentarians to carry forward the National Plan of Action (NPA) in this regard, a press release said.

Earlier this month, the National Core Group on CSA and CSEC met Shaukat Nawaz Tahir, joint secretary, ministry of women development, and recommended revision and adoption of the NPA.

The NPA is a joint effort of government agencies, non- government organizations and child rights activates. The document was prepared in 2001 by the National Commission for Child Welfare and Development, Pakistan Paediatric Association and Save the Children, an NGO. Its main objectives were to prevent CSA/CSEC, provide protection to children, build support services for the victims/survivors, such as recovery and rehabilitation facilities, and utilize various channels and means to attain these goals.

The meeting will be followed by a national consultation seminar on December 24 with objectives to share the experiences of the group with other civil society and international organizations.

The seminar will provide an opportunity to the civil society organizations from each province and government bodies working on CSA/CSEC to share their experiences in their respective areas.
