LAHORE, Jan 1: Darling Of The Royalty, a five-year-old thoroughbred mare owned by Makhdoom Hassan Raza, seems to be the day’s best, when the midweek Lahore Gymkhana Meeting gets under way at the Racecourse Wednesday.

The chestnut mare is participating in the fifth and feature event in a big field of 16 runners, if there are no last-minute withdrawals, to be run over six furlongs. A progeny of Rare Flyre out-of-Sacha, Darling Of The Royalty will be going all out to register a hat-trick of triumphs for her owner. She has already won two races in-a-row on Dec 23 and Dec 30.

Among her rivals the seven-year-old gelding Senna, the chestnut gelding Aao Payar Se and the bay gelding Asif Love will be content with to grab a place on the board.

In all, six events have been drawn up to be contested over the sprinting distance of six furlongs. The opener begins at 12.00 noon.

In the first race, a chestnut gelding One Touch is fancied to sprint past the finishing line ahead of a field of 13 acceptors. Saroop Jee, Always Inn and Martina Baby are the probable challengers.

The bay colt In Command, beaten last time out by Golden Wings, will be on the trot to make amends and win the second race.

There are 15 runners in the third race , barring last-minute withdrawals. This event looks to be an open affair. However, Cape Town, Rehmat Ka Phool, Grey Matter and Lucky Super Market are in with a chance.

The fourth race comprises 13 contestants, none of them having won a race yet. In such a situation winner picking may prove a difficult task.

The three-year-old chestnut colt Golden Wings, who registered a facile win on December 26 is poised to make it two in-a-row by virtue of his favourable placing in the handicap in the sixth and last race of the day. In all, 15 are expected to contest this event.
