A 33-member delegation of Islamabad-based foreign diplomats arrived here on Friday and visited Chaman.

During a briefing, the diplomats were informed the government has decided that from next year people would not be allowed to cross the border without carrying valid travelling documents.

The delegation comprising senior diplomats of the United States, Japan, Russia, Poland, Spain, Canada, Turkey, Sri Lanka, France, Germany, Iran, Belgium and other countries was led by Mr Iikkaulisitato, the representative of the European Union in Islamabad.

The delegation was accompanied to Chaman by Frontier Corps DIG Brigadier Zakir Ali Qazilbash.

The Commandant of the Pishin Scouts, a wing of the Frontier Corps, Col Rana Basit briefed the visiting diplomats. He said Pakistan has established 43 new check posts and erected 25km barbed wire fence along the border.

He said encroachments were removed from Pakistani border area in Chaman and the Friendship Gate was opened for pedestrians to cross the border.

The diplomats were informed that 9,209 Pakistani national identity cards were seized from the Afghan nationals at the border, which they had obtained during their stay in Pakistan as refugees.
