ISLAMABAD, Dec 19: Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) will complete electrification process of 760 villages of five districts by June 2004 at a cost of Rs555.158 million.

This process is being carried out under the Prime Minister’s Development Scheme, Tameer-i-Pakistan Programme and Khushhal Pakistan Programme.

Talking to this agency, the Iesco chief executive, Syed Adeebul Hassan, said the development programme of the company for the current financial year included electrification of villages, upgradation of various grid stations and improvement of transmission lines.

Talking about the progress of electrification work of villages till December 15, 2003, the chief executive said electrification work of 432 villages had already been completed.

As many as 365 villages have been electrified under Khushhal Pakistan programme in Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum, 37 under the Prime Minister’s Development Scheme and 30 under Tameer-i-Pakistan Programme in all the five districts, including Islamabad, he added.

According to details of the funds, the district governments of Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal and Jhelum have released Rs465.662 million for the electrification of 498 villages. However, Rs57.778 million and Rs31.710 million have been released under Tameer-i-Pakistan Programme and Prime Minister’s Development Scheme, respectively.

The company is making allout efforts to meet the targets, and,electrification work of about 50 villages is under progress and due to be completed by December 31, 2003. Electrification process of the remaining 110 villages will be completed by June 2004, he added.—APP
