SARGODHA, Dec 17: A local court on Wednesday handed down death sentence to a convict and 225 years collective imprisonment to nine others in a gangrape-cum-murder case.

The judge acquitted their co-accused Gahana for lack of evidence.

According to the prosecution, 11 accused, including Ghulam Muhammad, Shera Abid, Azhar, Hidayat, Zama, Muhammad, Mehboob, Hassan and Abdul had trespassed the house of Muhammad Khan at Shah Nikdar in August last year and abducted his pregnant wife ‘N’ and shot and injured his mother on resistance. They took her to Jhang where she was gangraped and then killed. To conceal their crime, they threw the body into the Jhelum river after cutting it into pieces.

Mehr Ali, the brother of Muhammad Khan, had also reportedly abducted and killed the sister of Ghulam Muhammad.

SCHEDULE: The election schedule for the District Bar Association has been announced here on Wednesday.

The elections will be held on Jan 10, 2004, while nomination papers will be submitted from Dec 22 to 24. The scrutiny will be held on Dec 26 while nomination papers could be withdrawn by Dec 27. The final list of the contestants will be displayed on Dec 29.
