KARACHI: Italian centre inaugurated

KARACHI, Dec 17: The Italian Cultural Centre was officially inaugurated on Wednesday evening with a European music programme.

A trio of famous Italian musicians, Angela Pardo (piano), Myriam Dal Don (violin) and Francesco Sorrentino (cello) performed a chamber music concert with remarkable aplomb.

In his welcome speech, the Consul-General of Italy introduced the musicians to the audience. He also spoke about the famous composers — G. Donizetti, L. van Beethovan and B. Smetana — whose compositions were played by musicians.

He pointed out that the Italian cultural centre was not only promoting Italian culture, but, was also displaying European culture. He said this was reflected in choice of the composers among whom except Donizetti others were not Italians.

The chamber music concert was followed by an exhibition of the paintings of renowned artists Shaheen Siddiqui, who has just completed an exhibition at Rome.

The secretary general of the cultural centre, Andreina Russo De Matteis, also spoke on the occasion.
