HYDERABAD, Dec 17: The Sindh Azad Hari Union has warned that if two peasants, taken hostage by a Sanghar landlord, were not recovered in three days, its activists would besiege the house and lands of the landlord.

Speaking at a news conference at the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan office here on Wednesday, union general-secretary Ahmad Khan Dars said Arbab Oadh and 28 peasants of Oadh community escaped from the captivity of landlord Ghulam Qadir Mari and reached Hyderabad on Nov 26.

He said it infuriated the landlord who began issuing threats to the Oadh community that if the escaped peasants were not brought back, he would kidnap the entire community.

Mr Dars said 16-year-old Karo Oadh was kidnapped in Sufi Faqir village, Umerkot taluka, on Nov 28 and schoolteacher Shamo Oadh of Goth Pir Bukhsh Mallah, Khipro taluka, was kidnapped on Dec 14.

He said police stations concerned and the DPOs of Mirpurkhas and Sanghar districts were informed about the kidnappings but no efforts were made to recover the hostages.

IT: The district government is giving top priority to impart information technology knowledge to the officers of nation building departments.

This was said by the EDO, community development, Hyderabad, Mohammad Ibrahim Qureshi, who also holds the charge of information technology EDO.

He was speaking at an IT certificate distribution ceremony here on Wednesday on completion of four-weeks office automation course for the officers.

He said that as many as 271 officials were recommended for IT short courses during this year and another batch of 300 officials would receive IT training next year.

He said that the aim of the programme was to enhance the capability of the officials for efficient functioning of government departments in the district.
