KARACHI, Dec 16: Davis Cuppers Aqeel Khan, Nomi Qamar, Jalil Khan and veteran Rashid Malik qualified for the semifinals of National Hard Court tennis championship after contrasting victories at Karachi Gymkhana on Tuesday.
Aqeel, who helped Pakistan to beat Korea 3-2 in Davis Cup tie a couple of month ago, faced strong challenge from Muhammad Khan before recording a 7-6, 6-3 win.
But his younger brother Jalil was taken to three sets by Muhammad Shafiq before advancing into the last four stage.
Nomi and Rashid outplayed their opponents to reach the semifinals.
A major upset was recorded in the ladies singles when unseeded Aameena beat the second seed Nida Rahim in a marathon three-set match.
