GUJRAT, Dec 16: Lalamusa city police have failed to arrest seven nominated killers, including the son of a former Naib Nazim, who shot dead three expatriates over a minor dispute on Dec 5.

Police registered a case against six unidentified and nine nominated accused, including Waqar Haider Shah, the son of former Naib Nazim Syed Noor Shah and nephew of former MNA Syed Manzoor Shah, on the charges of killing Munawar Dhola and his sons Ghulam Hur and Qasim. The other eight nominated accused are Amir Abbas alias Meeray Shah, Naeem Shah, Ashfaq alias Shaqi, Amir Lohar, Mukhtiar, Mustansar, Rauf and Zafar alias Zafari. Mukhtiar had died in the shooting of his accomplices while another nominated accused Ashfaq was in police custody.

Complainant Yasir, who is the son of Munawar, has declared Waqar Shah as the principal accused of the FIR.

Police sources claimed that accused Shaqi had said in his statement that neither he was involved in the killings nor he was present at the scene of crime.

They claimed that Shaqi had offered them help to arrest the absconding accused.

Some close relatives of the complainant expressed concern over Yasir security if police failed to arrest the absconding accused. They alleged that DSP headquarters and his subordinates have succumbed under political pressure and were hesitating to arrest them.

They claimed that it was rumoured that Waqar Shah and Amir Shah had fled to Canada and UK, respectively. Another accused, Naeem Shah alias Naeemi Shah, had also gone abroad.

Meanwhile, city SHO Nasir Cheema told Dawn that they had been raiding different places for the arrest of the killers. He denied that police had succumbed under political pressure.

He said police have been interrogating close relatives of the absconding accused and expressed the hope that the accused would be arrested soon.

Headquarters DSP Mahmoodul Hasan Qureshi was not present in his office when contacted for his comments.

TRUCK SNATCHED: Four highwaymen drove away with a truck on Sargodha Road on Tuesday.

M. Din was on his way by his truck (AJKB-4791) when the bandits intercepted him and deprived him of his vehicle at gunpoint.
