GUJRANWALA, Dec 16: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 rejected on Tuesday the police plea for exhumation of the bodies of the slain Sialkot judges and directed them to submit chargesheet of the accused on the next date of hearing.
The judge, Syed Iftikhar Husain Shah, rejected the plea of the police when heirs of the judges said they did not want to get postmortem of the deceased.
The prosecution requested the court that the incomplete chargesheet, which was submitted by investigating officers, led by Kasur DPO Ghulam Muhammad Kalyar, be brought back from the district attorney who also had failed to get the objections removed.
The court also ordered that 625 acres of the agricultural land of Sialkot jail former deputy superintendent Malik Iftikhar Ahmad be forfeited through the Gujranwala DCO.
The petitioners’ counsel requested the court that report of the Lahore High Court’s fact-finding committee on the Sialkot jail incident should be sought.
The court adjourned the case till Dec 24.
POSTPONED: The district council’s meeting was postponed for the third time on Tuesday because of lack of quorum.
Several Nazims protested the postponement of the meeting and demanded District Nazim Fayyaz Ahmad Chattha that he should solve their problems by attending the meeting.
District Naib Nazim Haji Gauhar Zaman convened the meeting at the chamber of commerce and industry office. However, a majority of the members of the treasury group, including the Nazim, did not appear.
As the convener announced postponement of the meeting, the Nazims of the opposition group and councillors criticized the Nazim for not taking interest in their issues.
