PESHAWAR, Dec 16: The Anti-Narcotics Force has foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of contraband and arrested the accused smuggler after an exchange of fire on the Grand Trunk Road near Aman Ghar Bridge, said an official statement.
Working on a tip-off, the ANF on Monday barricaded the area near the bridge. When the ANF personnel signalled the expected car coming from Peshawar, which bore a fake government number-plate (Mansehra-1125), the suspected smugglers opened fire. The ANF men returned the fire and forced the car to stop.
One of the smugglers, who was later identified as Sardar Khan, suffered wounds and was taken into custody. He was admitted to the Lady Reading Hospital. His accomplice escaped, the statement said.
The ANF team recovered 420kg of Hashish, 7kg of opium and two Kalashnikovs with 30 rounds from the car, it added.
