Hunger strike observed

Published December 17, 2003

MINGORA, Dec 16: A one-day hunger strike was observed on Tuesday by the dwellers of Saidu Sharif city against the non- supply of Sui gas facility and drinking water to the area.

Talking to newsmen at the hunger strike camp, the protesters said that Saidu Sharif remained a capital area of the former Swat state, but the government’s functionaries avoided to extend Sui gas facility to the city.

They said the people of Saidu Sharif were crying for pure drinking water for the last many years, but the authori-ties were not taking any notice.

They warned that if the government did not take notice of their grievances, they would again give a call for protest.
