Hashmi to face trial in jail

Published December 17, 2003

ISLAMABAD, Dec 16: District and Sessions Judge, Islamabad, Chaudhry Asad Raza has ordered that further hearing of the mutiny case against ARD President Makhdoom Javed Hashmi will be held in Central Jail Adyala.

The court also fixed Jan 3, as the new date for further hearing.

The judge ordered the change of trial venue after the prosecution presented a copy of the FIR registered against the supporters and workers of the PML-N for damaging vehicles parked outside the court premises during the previous hearing.

The court also considered, before issuing its order, the fresh suggestion of Islamabad Chief Commissioner Junaid Iqbal, which he issued on Monday, asking that the trial venue be shifted.

“Considering the law and order situation which was created by the other side (defence), no other alternative is available except to hold the trial in jail,” Munir Ahmed Bhatti, the prosecutor argued.
