Published December 17, 2003

HYDERABAD, Dec 16: The City Taluka Council on Tuesday demanded that the government should include the biography of Maulana Shah Ahmad Noorani in the curriculum and a research be conducted on his life.

The council session had been convened to pay homage to Maulana Noorani.

Speaking at the session, Taluka Nazim Moinuddin Shaikh said Maulana Noorani was the driving force behind the promulgation of the unanimous 1973 Constitution.

He said he always upheld the cause of democracy and fought for democratic values whenever dictators dislodged civilian governments.

He said he had established Madaris and mosques in different countries and also had the honour of making people embrace Islam.

The council adopted a joint resolution of Usman Abbasi and Qari Niaz, proposing that the Faujdari Road should be named after the late Maulana.

Yaqoob Shaikh, Anwar Chundrigar, Hakeem Sameer Ashrafi and other members also paid tribute to Maulana Noorani, saying he had never compromised on principles.

CONDOLENCE: Sindhi Language Authority has expressed grief over the demise of noted writer, critic and researcher and former secretary general of Sindhi Adabi Sangat, Dr Shams Soomro.

In a condolence message, SLA chairman Dr Mohammad Qasim Bughio has said that Dr Soomro had rendered yeoman services in the promotion of Sindhi literature.
