US warning

WASHINGTON, Dec 14: The US on Sunday warned that insurgents may try to disrupt Afghanistan’s just opened constitutional convention with terrorist attacks and urged US citizens to boost their security precautions.

“The likelihood of increased attacks by elements trying to disrupt the constitutional loya jirga exists (CLJ),” the State Department said, referring to the Loya Jirga which opened earlier on Sunday by former Afghan king Mohammad Zahir Shah.

“Americans resident in Afghanistan and Kabul, in particular, should be aware of the increased threat of ambushes, improvised explosive devices, and hostage taking,” it said.—APP
