KARACHI: A mandate divided between two teachers’ bodies, like the previous year, emerged in the annual Karachi University Teachers’ Society (Kuts) elections held on Thursday.

According to poll results, Dr Shakeel Farooqi and Dr Maqsood Ansari, both representing the Teachers’ Alliance for Good Governance (TAGG), were elected president and vice president after securing 347 and 316 votes, respectively.

Their opponents, Prof Jamil Kazmi and Dr S. M. Taha, representing the Karachi University Teachers Forum (KUTF), secured 267 and 301 votes.

Dr Farooqi was elected the society’s president for the second consecutive year.

Prof Haris Shoiab of KUTF was elected as secretary with 387 votes while his opponent Prof Shah Ali ul Qadar of TAGG secured 234 votes.

Mohsin Ali (TAGG) was elected as treasurer whereas Sarwat Afshan (TAGG) and Uzma Ashif (KUTF) won as joint secretaries.

Executive council members are: Dr Moiz Khan (KUTF), Nadeem Ahmed Khan (KUTF), Asim Ali (KUTF) , Prof Mudassiruddin (KUTF), Prof Anila Ambar Malik (KUTF), Dr Intikhab Ulfat (KUTF), Prof Mutahir Ahmed (KUTF), Dr Saadia Mahmood (KUTF), Dr Waqar Ahmed (TAGG), Dr Riaz Ahmed (TAGG), Dr M. Osama Shafiq (TAGG), Dr Zeeshan Akhtar, Dr Lubna Ghazal (KUTF), Asad Khan Tanoli (TAGG) and Dr Zafar Iqbal Shams (TAGG).
