PESHAWAR, Dec 12: Omar Babar upset top seed Tanveer Ashaq 6-4, 6-2 to capture Under-18 crown of the 24th Chief of the Air Staff Khyber Open tennis title on Friday.
Ranked seventh in the country, Omar right from the outset dominated his more experienced rival with his sizzling ground strokes.
Earlier, Habib Hasan outlasted a battling Zain Abbas 6-3 7-6 to lift the Under-14 title.
In the men’s doubles semifinals Aqeel Khan and Rashid Malik were extended to the limit before overcoming Inam Gul and Irfan of PAF in a nail-bitting match that lasted 72 minutes. The score was 7-5, 5-7, 6-4.
Aqeel and Rashid’s opponent in the final will be Asim Shafiq and Mehmood Khan who stunned Muhammad Shafiq and Shahid Afridi 6-1, 1-6, 7-6 (6-6). after 69 minutes encounter.
