Shahzad sparkles in drawn match

KARACHI, Dec 11: Shahzad Malik struck an unbeaten century as newcomers PTCL drew their Patron’s Trophy Pool ‘A’ match against Pakistan Customs at Quaid-i-Azam Cricket Park on Thursday.

When the four-day tie was called off with seven mandatory overs remaining, Customs had reached 113 for seven in their second innings. However, they had the satisfaction of obtaining three points after taking a slender 12-run lead on the first innings.

PTCL, resuming at the overnight 327 for seven, did themselves proud by adding a further 92 before being all out for 419.

Shahzad, who made only one first-class century previously, led PTCL’s spirited challenge admirably by converting his Wednesday’s score of 55 into a patient but well-crafted 111. His marathon 325-ball career-best knock, lasting seven hours and 19 minutes, contained 10 boundaries

Junaid Zia did not add to his haul of four wickets, and in the end gave away 83 runs for his trouble.
