KARACHI, Dec 9: Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) have their backs to the wall after Wapda took a huge first innings lead of 294 runs in their Patron’s Trophy Pool ‘A’ tie at National Stadium on Tuesday.

Openers Ali Naqvi, the KRL captain, and Mohammad Ramzan survived before play was halted by poor light with six overs unbowled. KRL, currently 39 for no loss, have to bat out of their skin in the remaining two days to escape defeat after being bundled out for 124 on Monday.

Wapda, starting the day at 182 for two, added another 236 runs to end up with 418 all out. Tariq Aziz, 114 overnight, was out on the stroke of lunch for 172 off only 208 balls in a stay of 274 minutes. His brilliant knock was spiced with 25 fours and three sixes.

Farooq Iqbal contributed an unbeaten 65 with 10 hits to the fence.
