ISLAMABAD, Dec 9: Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat has directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the capital territory administration to work together for the upcoming Saarc Summit.

He was presiding over a meeting of the two committees on security and beautification, here on Tuesday, an official statement said.

The minister directed both the CDA and the capital administration to take every possible step to make the event a memorable one.

The meeting was attended by CDA chairman, chief commissioner, director-general of Immigration and Passports, director-general of Federal Investigation Agency, inspector general police, DIG Rawalpindi, Jamal Shah, a renowned artist, and representatives of foreign office.

The IG police and the chief commissioner briefed the minister on the security arrangements in and around the capital during the stay of foreign dignitaries attending the summit.

The CDA chairman also apprised the participants of the meetings about the arrangements made by the authority to beautify the city on the occasion.

The minister directed the CDA to give special consideration to the beautification of Faizabad Flyover and Karal Chowk near Khanna Bridge.

He said: “Bright colours and cultural motifs should be used in all the banners and streamers to give a festive look.”

Considering the possibility of foreigners visiting Rawalpindi, he said security and cleanliness should be the main priority and the district administration and police must work together to avoid any untoward incident.

The minister also asked the district administration to arrange some cultural activity for the foreign delegates during the course of summit.
