PESHAWAR, Dec 9: Arbab Khan Afridi of the Institute of Education and Research was re-elected president of the Peshawar University Teachers Association (PUTA) here on Monday.
Mr Afridi of the Tanzeem-i-Asatiza Pakistan secured 200 votes, while his rival Dr Bashir Ahmad of the Progressive Group obtained 173 votes.
Progressive Group’s candidate Dr Hizbullah defeated Hamid Rehman of the Tanzeem for the office of general secretary. He bagged 211 votes, while his opponent secured 159 votes.
Dr Abdul Hamid Khan (TA) was elected vice-president, Faqira Khan Faqri (P) secured the slot of joint secretary.
Mohammad Rauf (TA) was elected finance secretary, Dr Doost Mohammad (TA) literacy secretary and Anwar Alam (P) sports secretary of the association. Mrs Tabasum Javed, Dr Fazl Qadir (TA), Dr Nisar Ahmad and Waqar Ali Shah (P) were elected executive body members.
