KARACHI, Dec 8: Governor of Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad, taking note of the unavailability of wheat flour at notified rates, has directed the provincial and city governments to take immediate measures to rectify the situation.

He said reports of sky-high prices of flour were disturbing. The provincial government had enough stock of wheat in the warehouses and the flour mills had released wheat under the agreed formula.

Therefore, said Dr Ibad, the rise in prices of flour to beyond the purchasing powers of the common people was incomprehensible. He said instead of effective steps in this respect a conflict was being fuelled between the provincial and city governments.

The governor directed that all-out efforts should be made to bring back the price of this essential commodity to the pre-shortage level. He vowed strict action against hoarders and profiteers.

Dr Ibad has sought a report from the Sindh Food Department on the supply of wheat to flour mills during the last three months.

Meanwhile, Dr Ibad visited different areas of Karachi on Monday morning and reviewed the traffic system and status of various development projects. — PPI
