JACOBABAD, Dec 8: A pipeline supplying gas from Sui to Karachi blasted and caught fire near the Fazal Khan Hajano village, Tangwani, Kandhkot taluka, here on Monday at 2am.

The fire was brought under control after 10 hours by fire brigades of the district.

Officials of the Sui Southern Gas Company said the explosion occurred due to a technical fault and the 16-inch-wide pipeline on the Sindh-Balochistan border was badly damaged.

The manager, operation, SSGC, Kazi Anwar, lodged an FIR against unidentified persons, saying the blast was an act of sabotage.

However, the Jacobabad DPO said the blast occurred due to high pressure and rejected that it was an act of sabotage. The SSGC officials were investigating the matter.

Our Sukkur Correspondent adds: On receiving the information, the SSGC suspended the gas supply and started repair works.
