HYDERABAD, Dec 8: An expenditure of Rs1,756,109 was incurred for renovation of the district Nazim secretariat on President Gen Pervez Musharraf’s visit in August this year.
A finance department source told this correspondent on Tuesday that the amount was spent on purchasing different items such as sofa sets, fixtures, etc.
The source stated these details have been brought on record by the district finance department in response to a question of a member of the district council.
The source added that these details had been sent to the district council for its record.
At least Rs42,000 were spent for purchasing five-seat sofa sets, Rs32,000 for seven-seat sofa sets, Rs6,000 for a table, Rs862,500 for a refrigerator, Rs344,000 for 60 office chairs, cushions, revolving chairs and a conference table, Rs101,549 for a carpet, Rs317,200 for a sound system, Rs5,000 for a lungi for the president and Rs20,000 on repairing the DCO camp office.
The EDO said that the expenditure on the district Nazim secretariat was incurred with due approval from a competent authority under the Sindh Purchase Manual Rule-12 (V).
A labour councillor, Rana Mehmood Ali Khan, had called for these details and had submitted a question in the session.
He wanted that the executive district officer, finance and planning, should inform how much amount was spent on the renovation and repairing of the district Nazim secretariat and what kind of items were purchased.
He had also asked the EDO, revenue, to bring on record the details of the relief fund received from the federal and provincial governments and other agencies for eight Talukas of the district.
He said that a comprehensive list of the rain-affected people who had received relief goods in the district should also be submitted in the session.
