NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, Dec 8: The growers of tail-end of watercourse-9R, Khahi Qasim Minor, held a demonstration at the watercourse on Monday against water shortage.

A large number of the protesters, led by Noor Phul, Fazal Mohammad and Haji Asadullah, raised slogans against the executive engineer, Rohri Canal, and the irrigation SDO, Bhirya.

They complained that the irrigation officers were selling water to the landlords by allowing them to take more water than their share by breaking modules.

As a result, they said, land located at the tail-end of the watercourse, was deprived of its due share of water.

They complained that their cotton crop was badly affected and they were sustaining losses.

They regretted that despite providing huge funds by the government, work for desilting watercourses was not carried out in their area for several years.
