MIRPURKHAS, Dec 8: The flour crisis persists in the district as the district food department has failed to provide Chakki and mill owners with the wheat quota for the month, forcing them to increase the price of flour by Rs6 per kilogramme.
The crisis has worsened as about 100 Chakkis have been closed due to the shortage of wheat. The Chakki owners have accused the district food controller of supplying the commodity only to his favourites.
They alleged that food officers were supplying rotten wheat to them and added that there was sufficient quantity of the commodity in government godowns but the controller was refusing the quota as he intended to earn maximum profit by selling the same at exorbitant rate.
They said that about 100 Chakkis had been closed in Mirpurkhas, Mirwah, Digri, Tando Jan Mohammad, Jhuddo, Naokot, Nabisar, Samaro, Kunri, Umerkot, Pithoro, Shadi Palli, Dhoronaro and Kot Ghulam Mohammad.
The Chakki owners urged the governor, chief minister and chief secretary of Sindh to take serious notice of the artificial shortage and ensure proper supply to end the crisis.
The district food controller was not available for comment.
WATER SHORTAGE: Misma-nagement by irrigation officials, tampered direct outlets and maximum cultivation have caused water shortage in the Nara Canal command area while tail-enders are suffering as many distributaries have been closed under the rotation programme.
Sources alleged that due to the mismanagement of irrigation officials, many water courses had been tampered with and added that maximum cultivation was carried out by many landowners after paying illegal gratification which resulted in water shortage in the command area, forcing tail-enders to face about 25 per cent water shortage.
SEMINAR: Shehri Ittehad Action Committee which met on Saturday elected chairman Abid Rajput and also decided to organize a seminar on Dec 10 to determine the causes of corruption in the taluka municipal administration.
A 10-member committee would invite Nazims, their deputies, councillors, representatives of NGOs and notables to the seminar.
