KARACHI, Dec 6: Shah Mardan Shah II Pir Pagaro VII’s four-year-old bay filly Love ‘U’ Lady is fancied to lift the Quaid-i-Azam Trial Cup, to be run over 10 furlongs contested by 10 highly bred Pakistani horses when the Winter Gymkhana Race Meeting gets under way on Sunday at the Karachi Racecourse.

The My Noble Lord - Nifeow Lady sibling shocked all and sundry over a month ago when she finished among the also ran. The filly was installed as the firm favourite that day after winning her previous two outings in a common canter. What happened to Love ‘U’ Lady on that fateful day after being heavily backed is still very much an unsolved mystery.

However, Love ‘U’ Lady is tracking like a champion and if all goes well this time, the filly should pick up the spoils in this race with the big hearted chestnut mare Lover’s Lady and the thoroughbred chestnut filly Sweet Touch, owned by S.M. Wasi Zaidi, going all out to prove us wrong.

All in all seven events have been chalked out for the afternoon’s programme. Three events will be contested over the sprinting distance of five furlongs, two will be run over six, one over seven furlongs and the main event will be contested over 10 furlongs.

The first race begins at 12.00 noon.

The Colts & Fillies Trials Cup, a terms race for Pakistani three-year- olds, will see seven runners in action, going all out to steal the limelight in the fourth event.

Of the seven, Ali Faisal Farooq’s bay colt Blue’s Traveller holds the Pakistan record having sprinted over six furlongs in Lahore early this year in a marvellous time of one minute 11 and half seconds.

But since returning back to Karachi, the bay colt although working well has been struggling to get back to his previous form.

Running this time over seven furlongs Blue’s Traveller should reach the winning post first, ahead of Ashraf Kothari’s promising bay colt Keen Winner, with the rest of the field trailing in their wake.

The Youngster Cup is the third trophy up for grabs in the second event of the afternoon.

In this race 10 top two-year-old colts and fillies will be vying for the top honours. Of the lot the bay colt Al Asif, after his impressive victory last time out is our fancy to win this six furlong sprint.

However, Al Asif will have two thorns in his side throughout the race in the form of Faisal Farooq’s bay colt Hunter Valley and Eye Sore.

In the opener, Ring Master, a bay colt unlucky to be declared second in a photo-finish with Your Opinion last Wednesday, should win this five furlong journey for the mere asking, challenged by Raj Kumar and Ceaser’s Palace.

The bay colt Your Opinion is on the hat trick trail in the third event, and should be followed home by Thousand Up and Departure On Time.

Don’t Panic, another entry from the Pagaro stables if ticking, should win the fifth race for the mere asking.

The thoroughbred dark filly from Strides by Strides out of Kafioca, although finishing second in her last two outings after winning her three previous events, should face little trouble against the likes of Donatello and The New Champion.

In the concluding event which has 13 runners, the dark bay three-year- old colt from young Moheyuddin’s stable, improving with every outing, should make it two winners in a row for owner Sajjid H. Qureshi, sprinting home to victory over five furlongs, ahead of Al Chemy and stable companion Ray Of Light.
