Saeed topples Bennett, Khayal beaten

KARACHI, Dec 6: Pakistan’s seventh seed Saeed Hassan caused an upset in the Chennai Squash Championship when he shocked European junior champion Dylan Bennett to reach the semifinals of the tournament in Chennai (India) on Saturday.

According to information reaching here, Saeed’s compatriot Khayal Mohammad, however, lost in the semifinals of the world ranking tournament.

India’s third seed Ritwik Bhattacharya kept local hopes of success in the event alive when he beat Germany’s sixth seed Stefan Leifels 15-11 15-11 15-5 in the quarterfinals.

The 24-year-old from New Delhi now faces Australia’s Mike Corren in the semifinals after the top seed was fully extended by fifth seed Khayal Muhammad before overcoming the Pakistani 15-13 15-10 12-15 15-12 in 82 minutes.

The seventh seed will take on England’s No2 seed Mark Heather, who beat compatriot Ashley Flathers 13-15 15-8 15-9 15-11.
