Pakistan’s teenage Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai on Tuesday called on the United Nations (UN), the international community and Pakistan and India to work together to halt "the inhumanity and heartbreak" in India-held Kashmir (IHK).
"The Kashmiri people, like people everywhere, deserve their fundamental human rights... They should live free of fear and repression," Malala said.
"I call on the United Nations, the international community and India and Pakistan to work together with utmost urgency to right these wrongs, providing the people of Kashmir with the dignity, respect and freedom they deserve."
Over 70 people have been killed in IHK during clashes with Indian forces after the death of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani sparked protests across the region.
"Dozens of unarmed protesters have been killed and thousands wounded, including hundreds of people blinded by pellet guns used to put down demonstrations," she said, adding that due to the weeks-long curfew imposed in IHK, "many schools have been closed... keeping children away from their classrooms."
"I stand with the people of Kashmir," she said. "My 14 million Kashmiri sisters and brothers have always been close to my heart."

Malala hold the Nobel peace prize, jointly. She can and should try to help end the atrocities and inhuman treatment of Kashmiris by the Indian forces.
They should live free of fear and repression, as Malala has said. If not complete freedom at least the forces breathing down the neck and placed everywhere should be removed with minimal presence, this will help in calming down the protesters, to begin with.

@Abhijeet This is not that simple. People going for elections in Kashmir to select their own people, so as to help them out with their daily lives, day to day matter, two separate things here. Going to local elections, selecting their own people doesn't in any way mean the people doesn't want the freedom from oppression, in fact they do it to gain more say for Kashmir.
This is like if a person on charges of sedition/asking for freedom is put into jail, will he try to start a hunger strike or kill himself, or will he try to keep on fighting from jail for his right to freedom, right for self determination, he will try to be stronger, makes the best use of his time in jail. It's about human suffering and not about a piece of land.

According to them so called 'separatist' are the ones who are fomenting issues while they are getting sponsored with money from outside the country. Each and every separatist leaders kid are either in US, Europe or Australia.

I just want to request my expatriate Pakistani community to be selective in choosing point of purchase. The UNO silence over human right violation the world over is making the world a show of those who believe that might is right. If USA, Russia, China or any other strong country raise voice against any oppression that will get highlight and if any weak country raise it the standards are different of UNO. The UNO must play a very positive role by forming a very powerful commission which once for all decide the boundaries of all the 206 countries of the world to end Arab-Israel dispute, Pakistan-India dispute over Kashmir, China's claim on East Asian Region. It is the only way to make the world peaceful and living place for all the humans. Everybody wants freedom, and just to be "left alone"
But let's be realistic here. Do you think Kashmir can survive independently as a small land-locked country? One with unstable co-religionists on one side, India and China on the other two? How long will it take for Taliban or ISIS to grab power, and for executions to commence in the Srinagar stadium? Please don't delude yourselves, the closest you will get to independence is to become an extension of Pakistan, and that is something which India will not accept.
My heart is with Malala and Kashmiris. Acceptance of ground realities by all (including Indian establishment) will be a good step forward.
