ISLAMABAD, Dec 4: Some important questions regarding armed forces and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) will come up in the Senate on Friday, sources told Dawn here on Thursday.

The sources in the opposition said, though, the Senate chairman had killed several important questions and motions related to army and intelligence agencies terming the issues as of “sensitive nature”, there were still some questions, which he could not kill.

They said the Senate would be informed on Friday about the names of those military personnel working in civil departments, against whom cases were initiated under the NAB Ordinance during 2002-03. The question raised by PPP Senator Farhatullah Babar has also sought details of the nature and current status of the cases.

Through another question, Mr Babar has asked the defence minister to state the law under which the management of defence lands, including camping grounds, outside cantonments, was regulated. He also asked the defence minister, through a separate question, the extent of revenue, derived from the camping grounds and other open defence lands outside cantonments, which had been deposited in the federal government treasury during the last five years.

The PPP senator has also sought from the minister in charge of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the details of the foreign trips undertaken by the NAB chairman and other officers during the last year. The details should also be “indicating the names of the officers with their designations, names of the countries visited, duration and purpose of visits, expenditure incurred and the names of the agencies which funded these visits”.

The defence minister, through a written reply, will also provide the upper House the details of the dues payable by the Defence Housing Authority, Karachi, to cantonment board, Clifton, since 1980 on account of property tax, water charges and the steps taken for the recovery of the dues.

The defence minister has been asked to state the competent authority that makes nominations for the officer commanding of the station under cantonments ordinance and the legal authority under which such officer commanding the station are functioning as president of cantonment boards.

The questions of MQM senator Babar Khan Ghouri regarding Pakistan State Oil Company and Airport Security Force will also come up in the Senate on Friday.
