ISLAMABAD, Dec 2: The Special Investigation Cell of the Anti- Narcotics Force (ANF) arrested one person from Rawalpindi on Monday and recovered 118.5kg of opium from his possession.

Sources in the ANF said they received ‘credible’ information about an attempt to be made by the members of drug mafia to smuggle opium out of the country.

“After authenticating the credibility of the information, a team of the Special Investigation Cell (Sic) was assigned the job to foil the attempt,” the Anf spokesman said.

“On Monday the Sic team spotted one member of the drug mafia on The Mall, Rawalpindi, who was chased and overpowered despite a lot of resistance and recovered 118.5kg of opium from the car,” he said.

The culprit arrested was identified as Said Wazir son of Abdul Khaliq, a resident of Mansehra district.

The ANF sources believe the arrest of Said Wazir will lead to further clues, which may help round up other people involved in drug smuggling.

An FIR has been lodged and the Sic Islamabad is carrying out further investigations. The vehicle involved in the smuggling bid was also taken into custody by the Sic.
