Three die as jeep falls into ravine

GILGIT, Dec 1: At least three people died and four were injured when their jeep fell into a deep ravine in the Kargah Valley, 25km from here, on Sunday night, police sources said.

They said the accident occurred when the jeep (GLT-5713) stopped its journey on a hilly track due to some reason and skidded off the road into a deep ravine.

The dead were identified as Pindin Khan, resident of Nagar, Firdous, a constable of the Airport Security Force, and Sher Ahmed Shera, a resident of Khur (Gilgit).

Police said three of the injured were identified as Abdur Raqeeb, Manzoor Hussain and Zaheer. Dead bodies had been handed over to the relatives of the victims.

In another accident on the Karakoram Highway, at least eight people belonging to Swat were critically injured when their van skidded off the ice-covered road in Guru area. Their condition was stated to be stable, they added.
