LAHORE, Nov 30: Fancied chestnut English filly, Aegean Daisy, produced a good burst of speed in the straight to win as the Eid Cup run over 1600m during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.
Owned by Mohammad Umar Butt and trained by Mohammad Bashir four-year-old filly, Aegean Daisy was confidently ridden by jockey M. Zeeshan.
Aegean Daisy was lying fourth behind Royal Falcon, Millennium Count and Think Thank in the early part of the race. In the straight jockey M. Zeeshan charged her and she lengthened away nicely to win the cup with the jockey holding on safely home, seven-and-a-half lengths ahead of bay colt Royal Falcon.
Bay gelding Think Thank finished third over four lengths further behind after edging out blue-roan gelding Millennium Count to fourth position to complete the frame.
In all, ten ran for the event after the last-minute withdrawal of Legality.
Aegean Daisy clocked one min 41 2/5 secs over the 1600m distance.
This was the sixth race of the day.
A race later bay English filly, Pretty Pekan lived upto her star billing when she outpaced her 16 rivals to win the Jamrud Cup run over 1600 metres.
Ridden by jockey Shahid Rehman this daughter of classic English sire Sri Pekan, Pretty Pekan came from almost last to lead the big field of 16. She beat the bay colt Tora Bora by two lengths easily.
Her stable companion Muqaddar running under a leisure rider Arshad finished third, another three lengths behind with Amazing completing the board, four lengths away.
Owned by Malik Hamid Ali Noon Pretty Pekan is trained by Haji Fazal Hadi.
Jockey Javed Choudhry stole the limelights of the day’s racing when he rode home three winners. He first romped home on three to win chance Final Count Down in the second race and then sailed in long shot Nijinsky in the fourth race. He completed his treble by riding home Lucky Dawn in the fifth race. Final Count Down and Lucky Dawn gave a fine double to trainer I. Nawab.
Four favourites obliged the punters when a card of seven events was gone through before a moderate crowd. They were Al trui Princess, Lucky Dawn, Aegean Daisy and Pretty Pekan in the third, fifth, sixth and seventh and last race. They all won their respective events easily. The other three events were bagged by long shots to make the afternoon proceedings almost even.
