Published December 1, 2003

ISLAMABAD, Nov 30: Spiritual leader Pir Pagara said on Sunday that Kalabagh dam was essential to meet the future water needs of the country.

He said the construction of new water reservoirs was essential for the progress and development of the country.

Talking to a news channel, he said some vested interests were wrongly opposing Kalabagh dam. It was very important to make the country’s lands fertile, especially those of Sindh.

Sindh should not be deprived of its due share of water, he added.

Answering a question, he said: “Chief Minister Sindh Sardar Ali Mohammad Mahar enjoys our full support and the talk of de-stabilizing his government does not carry weight.”

On the Kashmir issue, he said the problem should be resolved keeping in view the aspirations of its people. —APP
