BADIN, Nov 30: Three out of the six sugar mills in the district, Mirza Sugar Mill, Khoski Sugar Mill and Ansari Sugar Mill, started sugarcane crushing on Sunday.

The remaining three, namely Bawani Sugar Mill, Army Welfare Sugar Mill and Pangrio Sugar Mill, are to start the crushing from Dec 3.

ATTACKED: Some unidentified armed men attacked a police mobile on Saturday night and injured two constables in Lowari.

A mobile of the Lowari police station was on usual patrol when some men opened fire at the police and fled. The police did not return fire.

Two constables, Ayub and Anwar Chang, injured in the firing, were rushed to a hospital.

Later, a heavy police contingent reached the spot and arrested two persons, claiming that they were habitual criminals.

TEN HOUSES GUTTED: Ten houses were gutted in two separate incident in different parts of the district on Friday and Saturday.

Fire broke out in Gharibabad, Kario Ghanwar town, on Friday as a result eight houses with household items, ornaments, cash, and eight tonnes of rice were reduced to ashes.

The gutted houses belonged to Hussain Bakhsh Nizamani, Krishan Bachano, Ram Chand, Vensy and others.

In another incident, fire erupted in Yousuf Shah village, some six kilometres from here, on Saturday which razed at least two houses.

The inhabitants could save nothing but their lives.

The municipal fire brigade have remained out of order for the past many months.
