ISLAMABAD, Nov 28: President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Thursday discussed Pakistan-India relations with former US president Bill Clinton and Senator Hillary Clinton, hoping that the recent developments would lead to dialogue between the two countries, an official statement issued here on Friday said.

Senator Hillary Clinton held a meeting with President General Pervez Musharraf along with another Democrat Senator Jack Reed. Former US President Bill Clinton who is in New Delhi talked to President Gen Pervez Musharraf on telephone.

President Gen Pervez Musharraf said the recent India- Pakistan peace overtures should form start of the process and not end of it.

The president Gen Pervez Musharraf briefed the Bill Clinton of Pakistan’s efforts for resolution of outstanding disputes with India through peaceful means, and expressed the hope that recent developments would lead to dialogue.

While talking to US congressional delegation including former First Lady Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (Democrat) and Senator Jack Reed (Democrat) that call on him in Rawalpindi late Thursday evening, reiterated Pakistan’s position on the core issue of Kashmir.

The president said the recent peace overtures should lead to a composite dialogue between the two countries, including the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir.

During the meeting, the president and the US senators discussed the situation in Afghanistan and the recent steps taken by Pakistan to improve relations with India.

The two US senators expressed their appreciation about Pakistan’s critical role in the fight against terrorism and the valuable help rendered by Pakistan for the region’s stability.

Senator Hillary Clinton congratulated the President Musharraf for steps taken by Pakistan for promotion of peace with India.

The president also briefed the US Senators about the steps taken to broaden the base and scope of education in the country and the efforts for the development of human resource.

The US senators greeted the President and the Pakistani nation on the occasion of Eid.
