LONDON, Nov 28: Fiji wing Rupeni Caucaunibuca, who scored two outstanding tries against Scotland in the World Cup, has said he wants to play international rugby for New Zealand.

“I believe I have done my part for Fiji,” Caucaunibuca told the Fiji Times. “I am switching allegiance and going for a spot in the All Blacks’ team.”

However, New Zealand Rugby Union deputy chief executive Steve Tew told the New Zealand Press Association that Caucaunibuca would not be able to play for New Zealand.

“The International Rugby Board regulations are very clear,” Tew said. “You are only able to play for one country. Rupeni has clearly played for Fiji over the last few seasons.”

Caucaunibuca, 24, who plays for the Auckland Blues, has been named in the New Zealand Barbarians side to play world champions England at Twickenham on Dec 20.—Reuters
