PO killed in ‘encounter’

FAISALABAD, Dec 30: A notorious proclaimed offender was killed while his accomplice was arrested on Saturday night during an encounter at Chak 482-GB, some 50 kilometres from here.

Three armed outlaws tried to intercept a car on the Samundari-Faisalabad Road, but its driver pressed the accelerator and then informed the police at a picket near Khiderwala village. A police team rushed to the spot and besieged the area. Taking in the situation, the outlaws opened fire on police which was returned.

The three hours shootout left one of the outlaws dead. Another managed to escape in the darkness while the third robber identified as PO Baqir alias Baqri was arrested. He was wanted by police in a number of dacoity, murder and highway robbery cases. The deceased bandit, Abdul Jabbar alias Jabbari, was also wanted in several cases of heinous nature.
