NWFP celebrates Eid today

PESHAWAR, Nov 24: The people in the NWFP will celebrate Eidul Fitr on Tuesday after the NWFP government here on Monday announced the sighting of the Shawal moon.

MNA Qari Fayazur Rehman, while announcing the decision, told participants of a press conference the provincial government received enough “credible evidence” regarding the moon sighting.

Speaking at the provincial Auqaf building here, the MNA from Peshawar said the Frontier government had taken the prime minister into confidence in this regard, adding that the meeting of the provincial Ruet-i-Hilal committee was held with his consent.

Qari Fayaz insisted that the Central Ruet-i-Hilal should revoke its decision and declare Eid on Tuesday, saying that there should be no shame in conceding what he termed a mistake.

He said the provincial moon sighting committee held its meeting with the consent of two Central Ruet-i-Hilal committee members, Maulana Hassan Jan and Shabir Ahmad Kakakhel.

Qari Fayaz said that 26 witnesses had testified sighting moon from Peshawar while nine witnesses had called from Mardan, Charsadda (28), Hangu (23), Karak (43), Bannu (20), Dera Ismail Khan (8), Landi Kotal (4), Mingora (4), Katlang (4), Swabi (4), Lakki Marwat (6), Kohat 40, Mohmand Agency (10) and Jamrud (2).

The provincial government, he said, had asked district governments to implement the decision.
