KARACHI, Nov 23: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has imposed Section-144 CrPC with immediate effect following the rise in number of complaints against extortion (Bhatta) in the name of Fitra, Zakat and Chanda (donation).

The order prohibits collection of donation or Zakat and Fitra in the name of Chanda from people on public places. According to the city government, this step has been taken in the public interest.

The Nazim had received complaints that forcible donation was being collected from people in the name of Zakat and Fitra, which had been causing problems to the masses.

Following the ban, the Nazim directed the police to take serious action under Section-144 of CrPC against a person or persons, who was found collecting Chanda in the name of Zakat and Fitra. —APP
