HYDERABAD, Nov 23: Computer discs containing two video documentaries on Sindh’s environment, produced by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, were presented to Sindh University vice-chancellor by IUCN representative Nasir Ali Panhwar on Saturday.
One of the documentary is titled “Once This Was My Home” and the other “Sindh-The Land of the Indus”. They highlight the environmental problems of Sindh particularly environmental degradation and loss of livelihood at in the Indus Delta area.
The documentaries highlight Sindh’s environmental problems such as desertification, water scarcity, degradation of forests and fisheries, cultural heritage and urban environment.
Speaking on the occasion, the VC appreciated the efforts made by the International Union for Conservation of Nature towards creating awareness among the masses about environmental issues to motivate them to play a role for its improvement.
He also hoped that the documentaries would provide help to the activists working for the improvement of environment and scholars on environmental issues.
The University of Sindh has recently established the Centre for Environmental Studies and enrolled students for the education of environmental science.
