KARACHI, Nov 23: The Managing Director of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, Brig Asif Ghazali, has directed all engineers to make special arrangements for keeping water supply and sewerage systems intact on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr.

He also ordered immediate replacement of manhole covers, which were broken or had been stolen. He warned the officials of the board that no slackness in this regard would be tolerated.

Brig Ghazali asked the officials to make complaint centres more active during Eid holidays so that the complainants could be provided immediate relief.

He urged the residents not to waste water and advised them to install check valves in their underground water tanks. “In many areas, water flows into streets from houses without any check by the inhabitants, which destroys roads as well,” he added.

The KWSB Managing Director said that about 2,500 new manhole covers and more than 1,200 ring slabs had been installed in the city during the month of Ramazan. —APP
